A truly compelling Documentary which explores the life of Brenda Colclough, a 92 year old women from a small town in Atherstone, Warwickshire.
The piece seeks to curate the life experiences of a woman who has lived through many of the 20th Century’s greatest events.
The piece encapsulates what life was really like for an individual living during her era. The Documentary sensitively explores Brenda's private reflections on her childhood, her early years, work life, the war and life today as a 92-year-old, independently living woman - how society has changed and how she had to adapt to thrive.
‘Life Encounters at 92’ focuses on a remarkably captivating story of a lady who at a very early age, witnessed one of the most significant historical events to ever be documented; World War 2. Brenda shares some very honest experiences about how life was 80 years ago and some of the personal encounters she had to face during that time.
The documentary focuses on aspects such as her early years and how she had to sacrifice her education to look after her poorly mother. Her working life, such as working for ‘Hatton’s Hat Factory’ in Atherstone, which was one of the leading establishments in the West Midlands for the British hatting industry. The main focus of ‘Life Encounters at 92’ is the prominence of the Second World War which was apparent from 1939 to 1940. It highlights the struggles of this period and the detrimental impact it created.
She elaborates on how this affected her husband and his personal experiences of fighting for Britain.
The reflections that she shares are truly astonishing and also very heartwarming. Not only does it leave you feeling extremely blessed and fortunate, but as an artefact, it’s a medium that can also be used for educational purposes, giving a personal insight into such a momentous part of history.
"I'm very lucky. I'm very happy how my life has gone"

A statement from the Director of 'Life Encounters at 92' - Olivia Lloyd
"With already having an outstanding appreciation for history, I wanted to elaborate upon this and develop an artefact which encompasses those aspects. I knew my Grandmother had many stories from over her lifetime and I wanted to encapsulate those compelling tales and explore the journey of her life in the format of a Documentary. A medium where people can be educated on her era, as well as listening to a truly emotive piece, from an honest, loveable individual, full of wisdom."
